Exploration and Discovery
Sensory Play I Interactive Learning and Play | Give and Grow | Discovery Play
Sensory Play
Sensory play encourages young children to engage their senses by exploring with materials that have different textures, smells and appearances. Sensory play can help young children to develop their fine motor skills, language skills and cognitive abilities.
Interactive Learning and Play (ILaP)
Interactive Learning and Play (ILaP) is a unique feature of our Julia Gabriel Preschool programme. The programme aims to integrate concepts and skills appropriate to the development of young children. Our ILaP programme encourages children to develop social skills, language skills and self-help skills.
Give and Grow
Give and Grow is a sustainability and gardening programme that actively encourages our children to explore nature through activities like nature walks and cultivating plants in our Sprouting Seeds Children's Garden at the centre. The school garden features a change of crop every season, and primarily houses edible herbs, vegetables, fruits and flowers, where the gardening community will come together at volunteering sessions hosted by the school to help grow the garden. The children, through Give and Grow employed through selective Interactive Learning and Play sessions, will work towards sustaining the garden, and using it as a platform for researching and learning and plant growth and growing our own food.
These hands-on experiences allow children to connect with nature and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them, gradually fostering an awareness of sustainability as a global issue that they will play a role in addressing.
Discovery Play
(Pre-Nursery and Nursery 1) )
At this stage of their development, children enjoy interacting with different materials and are interested in finding out how things work. Discovery Play encourages children to learn about the world around them in a safe and nurturing environment.
Children learn best when interacting with a variety of hands-on materials that encourage them to try things out and make discoveries. They also delight in experiencing cause-and-effect relationships. Teachers facilitate this exploration by providing the children with engaging and open-ended materials. They also model language, introduce vocabulary, and encourage interaction and conversations during play. As the children make new discoveries, teachers facilitate their play through asking questions, talking through processes and providing options for them to explore an idea further. Through careful observations, teachers can discover the strengths and interests of each child. This will in turn allow them to plan for different experiences in order to scaffold their learning.
Discovery Play is offered under our After School Care for the Pre-Nursery and Nursery One students.
